On Tuesday, February 24, the Turpin JV squad (10-12, 6-8 ECC) fell to Milford 64-46. Except for early in the first quarter, the Eagles never trailed and gradually grew their lead throughout the game.
Milford opened the contest with a basket, but Drew Sesler answered with the three pointer to give Turpin its only lead of the game at 3-2. The Eagles then scored four straight until Adam Cameron scored to close the deficit to 6-5. Jack Tyskiewicz answered a Milford basket to keep the deficit at one, 8-7. The Eagles went on an 11-2 run, however to go up 10 at 19-9. Tyskewicz scored the Spartans’ only points during the run, and he also drained a three at the end of the first quarter to cut the deficit to 19-12. Milford started the second quarter with a three pointer to get the lead back up to 10 at 22-12. Jack Campbell made two free throws, and after an Eagle basket Adam Cameron hit a shot to shave the Eagle lead to 24-16. The teams then traded three pointers, as Campbell made one after an Eagle three. Tyskiewicz then scored to cut the Milford lead to 27-21. The Eagles ended the quarter on a 7-2 run, however and took a 34-23 lead into halftime. Tyskiewicz had the only points during the run.
The Eagles essentially locked up the game with an 11-2 run to start the third quarter to take a 45-25 lead. Matt Wiesenhahn’s basket was the only Turpin score during the run. Campbell drained a three to get the Spartans within 17 at 45-28. Wiesenhahn scored again after an Eagle basket to make the score 47-30, then Will Hausfeld hit a three after Milford hoop to cut the gap to 49-33 at the end of the third quarter. The teams traded free throws to start the fourth quarter, as Tyskiewicz hit one for Turpin. The Eagles got the lead back up to 20 with four straight points until Michael Grotton scored on a put back. He scored again after a Milford free throw to cut the deficit to 55-38. The Eagles then ripped off seven straight before Grotton scored to make the score 62-40. Dylan Calder then drained back to back threes to cut the deficit to 62-46, but the Eagles put an exclamation point on the contest with a breakaway dunk for the games’ final points. Final score Milford 64-Turpin 46. The Spartans were led in scoring by Tyskiewicz with 12 points (one three pointer), followed by Campbell with eight (two threes), Grotton and Calder (two threes) with six apiece, Cameron and Wiesenhahn with four each, and Sesler and Hausfeld with three apiece on three pointers.
