Turpin hosted ECC rival Loveland and Turpin was looking to revenge their first defeat of the season. The host Spartans found themselves down 5-0 after the first few minutes of the quarter before Corinne Nikolai recorded two baskets in front of Allison Christopher's field goal. The Spartans were up 6-5 at the end of the quarter. The Spartans were disappointed they didn't convert more opportunities since they were dominating the offensive glass and could not convert their "put backs". Sadly, this would foreshadow the rest of the evening.
Down 12-7 at half and 20-12 after the 3rd and even with their shooting woes, the Spartans were still in the game. The defense was minimizing Loveland's scoring all while Turpin was carving up the Loveland zone and getting high quality shots. Moreover, Turpin was rebounding their misses and getting tons of offensive rebounds and follow up shots, yet they couldn't cash in.
A tough loss but there were some positives: Turpin held Loveland to under 30 points; the Spartans dominated the boards, they ran the zone offense well and got good shots and there was no quit. Defend to the end!
Final score THS 14 - LHS 28.
Scoring line: Smith 1; Nikolai 5; Christopher 7; Argus 1
The 8-4 Freshmen Spartans have neighborhood rival, McNicholas, coming up next. Stay strong Spartans!
