It was an eventful and exciting week for the Turpin boys bowling program. After a long layoff, the Spartans returned to action on January 4th to face district rival Anderson. Although the Spartans fell short, they posted a season high score of 2491. The Spartans were led by senior Greg Wheaton with a 424 series. The Spartans also posted their highest baker game of the season, a 256 respectively.
Finally, on Saturday January 9th the Spartans traveled to Northwest Lanes for the annual ECC/SWOC Conference Tournament. Following last year’s success in the individual rounds of the tournament, Turpin hoped to have a better finish in the baker game double elimination bracket. After a heartbreaking loss to Loveland in the first round, the Spartans fought back and won four consecutive matches against Withrow, Milford, Kings, and Ross. During the match against Ross Turpin found itself in a tie, which ended in a roll off. A bowler from Ross and Senior Greg Wheaton from Turpin went head to head in the roll off. With Greg rolling 3 strikes and a spare the Spartan's came out with a win over Ross. Never being in this siuation before it was awesome to see the boy's not only from Turpin but from other teams cheering Greg on. This run gave Turpin a fourth place finish in the tournament; their highest in the last three seasons. Individually, sophomore Ryan Zink led the Spartans with a 575 series. The Spartans will look to build off of this success and face conference rival Kings on back to back days this week.
Congratualation's Spartans it was a great week!
