On Saturday February 6th, the Turpin Spartans (7-13) took to the road facing former FAVC foe Little Miami (15-5) and saw the Panthers come away with a 57-47 victory.
It was a rocky start to the contest as the Spartans fell behind 8-0. Jack Tyszkievwicz stopped the run with a basket, then Owen Richardson knocked down a three to pull the Spartans within three at 8-5. The Panthers then went on a 9-2 run to take a 17-8 lead into the second quarter. Little Miami began the second quarter by making a three to go up 20-8. The Spartans responded with a 10-0 run to climb back into the contest. Mitch Johnson began it with a three pointer, then Jack Campbell scored off an offensive rebound, Glandt scored off a feed from Campbell, then Glandt knocked down a three pointer to cut the deficit to two. The Panthers responded with three straight until Campbell knocked down two free throws to pull the Spartans within three at 23-20. Little Miami got the lead back up to six at 26-20. The teams traded scores, then the Spartans ended the quarter scoring four straight on baskets by Campbell and Glandt and only trailed 28-26 at halftime.
The Panthers widened their lead to 31-26 to begin the third quarter. Campbell scored, but Little Miami hit a three which was answered with a Tyszkievwicz basket to cut the gap to 34-30. The Panthers built the lead to six at 40-34, but A’Drien Baker scored on a conventional three point play, then Richardson knocked down a three after a Panther basket. Little Miami finished the quarter with a free throw, and took a 43-40 lead into the fourth quarter. The Panthers pulled away in the fourth thanks to an 8-0 run and took a 51-40 lead. After a Baker free throw, they continued to widen the lead to 55-41. The Spartans went on a 6-2 run to end the game on baskets by Johnson and Glandt and two free throws from Campbell. It was not enough however and the Spartans lost 57-47. Turpin was led in scoring by Glandt (one three pointer) and Campbell with 12 apiece, followed by Johnson with seven (one three), Baker and Richardson (two threes) with six each, and Tyszkievwicz four. The Spartans next get back to ECC action on Wednesday, February 3 against Milford on Senior Night at Klinger Court. Tip-off is 7:30 pm.
