Although they graduated on May 29, Turpin seniors Lauren Kobasuk and Caroline Mink had a little unfinished business to attend to before going off to college. Representing Turpin one last time, Kobasuk and Mink joined teammates freshman Sam Bush and junior Emma Hauserman to run at the OHSAA Division I Track and Field Meet at Jesse Owens Stadium in Columbus on June 3 and 4. The four runners qualified for State together as a 3200 meter relay team; Bush also qualified individually in both the 1600 and 3200 runs.
Seeded 16th in the state going into the meet, the 3200 meter relay team exceeded expectations, placing 14th with a time of 9:34.74 – outpacing every other Cincinnati team, including track powerhouse Mason.
Sam Bush, although qualifying for State in both the 1600 and 3200, opted to conserve her energy and compete in only 3200. This decision paid off as Sam ran a personal best time of 10:47.31, earning a place on the podium with a 5th place finish. Sam’s time is the second best in Turpin history and 15th best ever in Cincinnati.
Although Kobasuk and Mink ended their Turpin running careers in style at State, Hauserman and Bush will be back next year with the chance to better this year’s outstanding achievements.
