Junior forward, Elise Crew, scored one goal in each half of an ECC matchup against the Walnut Hills Eagles to lead the Spartans to the 2-0 win. Junior Goalkeeper and Captain, Caroline Welsh, returned to action after missing three games with an injury and recorded her 4th shutout of the year.
The Lady Spartans controlled the majority of the possession during the 80 minutes of action against ECC rival Walnut Hills and took many more shots on goal. Junior forward, Elise Crew, found the first goal of the game six minutes into the first half. Elise scored after a throw-in by Senior defender, Brittney Gardner, which for us, is as good as a corner kick. The ball bounced around the goal box until Senior outside mid-fielder, Lauren Wiesman, delivered a nice touch pass to the mouth of the goal and Elise was able to flip it past the Eagles’ Goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead. The Lady Spartans commanded the halftime lead, 1-0.
Early in the second half, Senior Captain Claudia Reynolds delivered a beautiful breakaway pass to Junior, Elise Crew, who did the rest of the work for the score. Elise used her speed and skills to work past the Eagle’s defenders, beat the Goalkeeper, and place the ball squarely in the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. The Lady Eagles never recovered from the 2-0 lead and surrendered the win to the Lady Spartans.
The Lady Spartans are now: 4-3-3; ECC, 2-1-1, and are currently ranked #9 in the City.
