The Spartans dominated the ECC this season by earning the coveted title of 2016 ECC Conference Champions for the 2nd year in a row, winning the season 6-0. The team then went on to finish in 1st place, winning the entire ECC Tournament!!
After their victorious season the stage was set for them to compete in the ECC tournament where all the teams would meet up once again to battle it out for the end of season tourney. The tournament was held at Lunken on September 27th, luckily the girls were blessed with sunny and favorable playing conditions. They arrived at Lunken at 8:30 am and didn't leave till 6:00 pm. The girls would play all of the 6 teams in the ECC which includes Anderson, Loveland, Walnut Hills, Kings, Milford, and Glen Este.
Caitlin Fisher had a great win over Lilly from Walnut Hills and rallied to beat Amanda from Milford 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) avenging her 3 hour, 3 set loss she had to her during the season securing her spot as 1st place for 1st singles. Savannah Allen won her first set 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) and then winning the 3rd set in the finals over Loveland. Savannah Webber played a great first match but was thrown a curveball in the second round playing a backboard. She went on to win over Walnut Hill in round 3 securing her the 3rd place spot for 3rd singles in the ECC.
The doubles teams had some amazing matches with both teams winning their first rounds. Brogan Bennell and Sarah Wilke won their first match easily and battled thru their 2nd match to win in three sets. This secured their spot in the final playing for the title of 1st place in 1st Doubles. They faced the team they had previously lost to 2 times during the season only to come out triumphant beating them 6-1, 6-2!! Morgan Reynolds and Allison Musgrove won their first round but were defeated in the 2nd round to a very solid Walnut Hills team. The girls rallied in the 3rd round of the day and beat Kings to finish 3rd in the 2nd doubles spot.
It was a great victory for Trupin Tennis all of the girls truly rose to the occasion and played their hearts out. They were led by the guidence and wisdom of their dedicated coach, Gail Maundrell and cheered on by their parents. A big thanks to all who came out to support the Turpin Girls Tennis team on such a great day!
