Lady Spartan Seniors lead team to win on Senior Day, 3-1

Seven Seniors took the field for their last regular season home game in a match against the Lakota West Firebirds; Captain Jenny Lippowitsch, Captain Claudia Reynolds, Julianna Drambarean, Brittney Gardner, Grace Hamilton, Hailey Siler, and Lauren Wiesman.

Just five minutes into the game, the Lady Firebirds tallied the first goal of the match and led the Spartans, 1-0. This is the second game in a row the Lady Spartans have conceded the first goal and played from behind.

SPARTAN STRONG!

Six minutes later, the Lady Spartans gathered themselves and started playing Spartan soccer. Senior Hailey Siler distributed a corner kick across the mouth of the goal, and then Junior Taylor Gebhart delivered a solid strike and score into the back of the net for the equalizer at 1-1. With just under 18:00 to play in the first half, Senior Jenny Lippowitsch used an acrobatic “flip throw-in” with such velocity it traveled across the mouth of the goal to the far weak post. Junior Casey Kupferberg literally “bodied” the ball into the opposite side post with her hip. The Spartans had captured the lead, 2-1, at the half.

The Spartans would add another goal in the second half to seal the win, 3-1. Senior Lauren Wiesman laid out a nicely paced pass through the Firebird defenders to Junior Elise Crew who found herself wide open on the left post. Elise easily found Senior Hailey Siler charging through the middle of the goal box who blasted a laser shot into the goal for the 3-1 lead and eventual final outcome. This is the second game in a row the Lady Spartans have rallied from a 1-0 deficit to win.

The Lady Spartans are now: 6-5-3; ECC, 2-2-1.

The Lady Spartans play their final regular season game and ECC contest against the Glen Este Trojans on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at Glen Este High School. JV Gold plays at 5:00 pm and Varsity plays at 7:00 pm.
