JV Gold Spartans Conquer the Glen Este Trojans 8-0

The modern day Greek Wars just aren’t what they used to be. Turpin finished their Spartan Strong season Tuesday night wielding their arsenal of soccer skills to shutout the Glen Este Trojans 8-0.

The Spartans demonstrated a command of the sport to a large crowd consisting mostly of Glen Este supporters. The match was played on grass at Amelia High School’s stadium. A new West Clermont High School stadium is still under construction. West Clermont HS will merge the current Amelia & Glen Este High Schools in the fall of 2017.

The player highlights begin one minute into the match when Turpin captain Cara Hauserman’s strong shot hits the far left post. Isabel Shim was there with a follow-up shot just inside the right post for a rapid 1-0 Turpin lead. After 10 minutes of possession exchanges, Cara Hauserman made a run on goal and back-passed to Sophie Welsh who’s shot deflected off the goalie into the goal box, extending Turpin’s lead to 2-0. Gigi Bush took a strong 25-yard shot straight down field center, however, it was saved by the Trojan keeper. Five minutes later, Kate Muscatello replicated the same strong shot, but it was also saved. Turpin continued to attack the Trojan’s gate when, at the 16-minute mark, Gigi Bush’s lead pass was taken on the run by Cara Hauserman and javelined up and over the goalie into the net to give the Spartans a commanding 3-0 lead.

Turpin maintained their 3-0 lead into the half on the strength of 14 shots, while the Spartan defense held the Trojans offense to zero shots.

A barrage of activity greeted the Trojan’s goalkeeper at the start of the second half. Spartans Gigi Bush drove a ball over the crossbar, Sophie Welsh’s shot drew wide of the post, and Cara Hauserman’s shot was saved. At this rate, another goal seemed imminent. Then, Kallista Rogers back-heeled a ball to Gigi Bush who touched a pass to Cara Hauserman. Cara’s shot deflected off the goalie and was immediately planted into the net by captain Reilly Flora for a 4-0 Turpin lead.

Minutes later, Claire Bailey darted a lead pass to Cara Hauserman who promptly turned, noted the charging goalie, and she slid a low shot under the goalie to the left net for a 5-0 Spartan lead. Eighty seconds later, Skylar Huster tackled for possession of the ball and touched a pass to Kate Muscatello who then delivered a short pass to Gigi Bush. Gigi then drove the ball into the left net, lifting the match score to 6-0 for the Spartans. For public notice, Kate Muscatello has achieved her dream of serving as goalkeeper for JV Gold now that she has subbed in for Molly Glandt, and she secured Molly’s shutout.

It’s important to note that all of the aforementioned shots are courtesy of a defensive line that is quashing every Trojan attempt to enter their kingdom. In fact, if you had a Spartan jersey on tonight you’d be feeling awfully proud because Glen Este has nary been able to reach beyond midfield except during kickoffs after Turpin goals. The Spartan’s defensive battalion has dominated their opponents in this battle, and the moment the Trojans lay down their arms is near.

Cara Hauserman continued the offensive deluge as she took a long pass, this time from defender Taylor Black, on a familiar sprinting run and slid a shot under the advancing goalie into the net for a 7-0 Turpin lead. At this point, Cara Hauserman has earned Player of the Match status. As further confirmation, she now took a pass from Sophie Welsh and drove it into the upper net for her 4th goal of the match. With this goal she has just broken the previous JV Gold individual scoring record with her 15th goal of the year. Congratulations Cara!

Sophomore captain Cara Hauserman was unstoppable as she posted 4 goals in today’s match.

Glen Este conceded the match 8-0 after several final minutes of action. Much respect should be extended to the Trojans for honoring their namesake, and continuing to encourage each other and battle to the last second, despite the daunting score line.

The final Turpin JV Gold season record is 6 wins, 1 loss and 9 ties. The final ECC League record is 3-1-2.
