The Spartans (13-4, 6-1 ECC) season came to a heart breaking end losing to Oak Hills in PKS after playing to a 1-1 tie through regulation and overtime.
Soccer can be a cruel sport as the Spartans out shot Oak Hills 23-4 but could only manage the 1 goal. Oak Hills scored very quickly within the first minute to take a 1-0 lead but the Spartans responded before half on an Oliver Walker header from a long pass from Jacob Benintendi. Oak Hills played a very physical game committing 20+ fouls which caused Turpin to never be able to get into a good flow. However it did create a lot of free kicks, throw-ins and corners but the Spartans just could not get that 2nd goal in.
Even though it was a tough way to lose, the Spartans and the nine seniors should be proud of what they accomplished this season and careers. In the last two years the Spartans had an amazing 28-7-1 record with a 1st and 2nd place finish in a very competitive conference. If you throw out the Moeller loss this year, the other six loses were either by one goal or PKs. In a sport with so many ties to come up with 28 wins is something they should be very proud of.
The Spartans lose a ton of leadership and talent from this year’s senior class and we wish them well in the future. The Spartans also return seven starters and key bench players next year to hopefully continue the success!
