Turpin sophomore Caitlin Fisher placed fourth at tbe state championship tennis tournament Saturday, one of the top finishes in Turpin sports history. Fisher had one of the more exciting Division I first round matches, going three sets to beat Cassie Alcala of Pickerington North, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. That put her in the second round with the "other" Emily Thomas of Massillon Jackson. Fisher won 6-2, 7-5 to become Turpin's first singles semifinalist and the first for coach Gail Maundrell.
"I started off the day a little rough, but I just kept fighting," Fisher said. "I was able to pull out my first match. My second match was also tough. I just tried to play my best and it worked. It was really difficult, especially with the win."
The day was sweet for Fisher after losing in the first round a year ago.
