The Turpin Spartans met up with the Oak Hills Highlanders at Lakota West on Wednesday night for Turpin’s first game (after a bye in Round 1) for this year’s fight for the state title. This would prove to be a very competitive match-up.
Both the Spartans and the Highlanders fought a tough battle in Set 1 but Turpin pulled out in the end, winning 25-22. Oak Hills regrouped and came back fighting even harder in Set 2 and were able to stay ahead of the Spartans throughout the match. Turpin’s senior players showed their experience with great hustle, smart play, big blocks and amazing Kills, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Oak Hills who on the set with a score of 20-25.
Although the Highlanders won the first point in Set 3, that was the only time they had the lead during the set. The Spartans dominated this set and won 25-19. Oak Hills was not going to leave without a fight so they came back strong in Set 4, but they didn’t have enough to overtake Turpin. The Spartans were able to read the court, strategize and play with force and took the set 25-22. This win advances Turpin in tournament play.
The Spartans will play Lakota East at 3:00 on Saturday, October 22nd at Lakota West High School.
