The Lady Spartans defeated the Northwest Knights, 3-0, prepare for #3 City ranked, Mount Notre Dame Cougars on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 7:00 pm, at Princeton High School.
The Lady Spartans easily handled the visiting Northwest Knights to win a first round Ohio State Division I playoff game and move on to the District Semifinals (the Sectional Championship game).
With 5:30 remaining in the first half, Junior mid-fielder, Taylor Gebhart, stepped forward to take a penalty kick (PK), after Senior Grace Hamilton was fouled in the goal box. Taylor delivered a confident strike on the ball netting the first strike of the game and the 1-0 lead for the Lady Spartans.
The Lady Spartans would strike once more before halftime. Junior forward, Elise Crew, was able to get free on the outside and had enough time and space to locate a wide open Senior mid-fielder, Julianna Drambarean, at the top of the goal box who blasted a laser fast strike into the back of the net for the ever important insurance goal and halftime lead, 2-0.
The Last Spartan score came off a Spartan corner kick with just under 9:00 left in the game. Senior mid-fielder, Hailey Siler lofted a nice ball into the goal box that bounced around until Sophomore Kily Egan was able to strike a header into the goal from 15 yards out and just over the outstretched hands of the Knight’s goalkeeper. The Lady Spartans won, 3-0.
Senior Goalkeeper, Caroline Welsh, and the Spartan defenders recorded their 5th shutout of the season.
Special recognition goes to Senior mid-fielder, Jenny Lippowitsch, who suffered a serious ankle sprain and will not play the rest of the year. Jenny; thanks for four great seasons with Turpin Soccer! The Turpin Spartan family wishes you a quick recovery, a fun senior year, and best of luck in college.
