January is a grind. The Spartans headed into a stretch of five games in 10 days with an ECC fixture at Loveland. Defense carried the day as Turpin held off the Tigers 38-32.
The 1st quarter was dominated by defense. Turpin held the hosts to just one field goal while Kaitlyn Workman and Ellie Holt each scored a basket. A pair of free throws from Charlotte Kerregan accounted for the 6-2 lead after the first horn. Ellie Holt heated up in the 2nd with a 3 pointer to go along with a pair of baskets. Savanah Hazenfield got on the board with a 3 point field goal and Elise Schulok scored a basket as Turpin led 20-13 at halftime.
Turpin opened the 2nd half with a 9-4 run as Workman and Kerregan each scored a pair of baskets, but in the 4th, the hosts countered with a 15-9 run of their own. Workman and Schulok scored a basket each as the Spartans made just enough foul shots to keep the Tigers in check. Turpin improves to 10-3 (7-1 ECC)
