On Saturday, February 4th, the Spartans could not keep up offensively with the hot shooting Knights of Kings as Turpin fell to the visitors 45-31 in one of the more physical games of the season.
A short jumper by Corinne Nikolai opened the scoring, then Brielle Robinson hit a driving lay-up but the pressure from the visitors forced turnovers as Kings led 10-5 after the 1st. Another basket from Robinson opened scoring in the 2nd then Nikolai earned two 3 pointers: one jumper from behind the arc and the other a conventional 3 pointer. Down 7 in the waning seconds of the half, Nikolai drove the baseline then fired a pass to Abby Pera open in the left corner. Pera drained her first of three 3 pointers at the buzzer as the Spartans trailed 20-16 at the break.
But that’s as close as Turpin could get as Kings scored 25 points in the 2nd half. Audrey Robinson tried to start a rally in the 3rd by scoring 4 points to go along with Pera’s second trifecta, but Turpin trailed by 10 going into the final period. Kings got to the line and converted their free throws as the hosts could not ignite a rally to get back into the game. The JV Spartans slip to 13-6 on the season.
