The JV Spartans could not recover from a 9 point first half, and although the offense arrived in the 2nd, they could not overcome the Saints of Seton in falling 42-35 at Klinger Court.
Defense and cold shooting from the field and the foul line were evident early as Seton led 5-2 after one with a Kaitlyn Randall lay-up accounting for the Spartan offense. In the 2nd, Brielle Robinson hit a couple of free throws, Randall added another basket and lone foul shot, and Corinne Nikolai scored a short jumper. But, the Spartans trailed 14-9 going into the locker room.
In the 3rd, both squads started to score. Randall scored two more baskets while Nikolai had a put back along with a 3 pointer, but the Seton lead was seven going into the 4th. In the final quarter, Randall hit a 3 pointer as did Nikolai. Brielle Robinson scored on an offensive rebound and she added a lone free throw. Audrey Robinson went 5 of 6 from the foul line and Nikolai went 2 for 2 as well. However, the 16 point final period was matched by the visitors as the Saints used clutch foul shooting to keep the Spartans from overtaking them. The JV Spartans drop to 13-7 on the season.
Scoring: Nikolai 12; Randall 12; B. Robinson 5; A. Robinson 5; Gonos 1
