The final game for the JV Spartans was a rematch against Anderson, and the Spartans got off to a torrid start with a 21-9 run in the first half. Good shooting and a smothering defense provided all that was needed as the Spartans win their 15th game out of 22 contests, 33-19.
The Spartan offense started from the outside then worked inward with Corinne Nikolai hitting back to back 3 pointers to start the game. Stifling defense from Spartan guards Katelyn Randall, Audrey and Brielle Robinson and Abby Pera converted Redskin turnovers into high percentage baskets. Randall would convert a pair of lay-ups while Audrey scored on a driving lay-up as well. Turpin led 13-5 after the 1st. In the 2nd, the Spartans continued to aggressively attack the basket. Audrey scored a field goal in the paint while Nikolai drew a foul on two drives across the lane. She hit 2 of 4 from the free throw line. Later, Nikolai went back outside for another 3 pointer before half time as Turpin led 21-9 at the break.
The 3rd quarter was a defensive gem for the Spartans as they held the Redskins to just one basket while forcing more turnovers. Meanwhile, Audrey continued driving the lane and drawing fouls while Corinne hit her 4th 3 pointer of the game before going down with a sprained ankle that ended her day. The Spartans led by 18 points with one more quarter to play. In the 4th, the offense was deliberate as the Spartans substituted freely. Randall added another basket and Kate Muscatello capped off the season with a basket of her own. The Spartans sweep Anderson and finish the 2016-17 season with a 15-7 record. Way to go ladies!
