The Spartans (0-0 ECC, 2-1) avenged a tough road loss to Harrison from a couple years ago with a solid 7-1 victory. This was the Spartans 3rd consecutive road game as they split their opening weekend against Upper Arlington and Berea-Midpark. With a very experienced team, Turpin will be challenging themselves with a tough schedule with only 8 of the 26 games being home games.
The Spartans got their bats going in the 2nd inning. Dana Bausch led off with a double to center field. With one out Madison Saylor reached on an error and Sandi Malone knocked in Bausch with a double to left to give Turpin a 1-0 lead. The lead was extended to 3-0 after both runners scored on back to back sacrifices by Maddy Young and Kaitlyn Workman.
Harrison cut the lead to 3-1 in the 3rd but Sarah Yarocki continued to work herself out of some jams forcing timely ground balls. The bats for Turpin went silent until the 7th inning when they were able to give themselves some breathing room. Turpin got the first two runners on as Young walked on a 3-2 count and Workman reached on a fielder’s choice with good hustle by Young to beat the throw at second. The lead went from 3-1 to 6-1 on back to back to back hard hit seeing-eye singles by Yarocki, Molly Case and Bausch. Turpin scored their final run on a ground out by Izzy Helm.
Yarocki pitched a complete game three hitter to improve her record to 2-0. Malone and Bausch were the hitting stars each collecting three hits.
