Sam Bush sets school record at Midwest Meet of Champions

After a week of 90 degree temperatures, the Fall cool that returned, combined with a flat, spectator friendly course. made for a great day of season best performances amongst the team and in one case a new school record!

We began the day with a Freshman/Sophmore race of 18 teams in total. Sophomore Kayla Jones followed closely by sophomore Anna Polivka led the Spartans with season best times. Freshmen Ella Lambert, Lydia Dill and Emily Browning rounded out our top 5 scorers. Maya Manaster and Kelly Fox, both Freshmen, were our final two place finishers for the team, helping the Spartans to finish in 6th place.

The Race of Champions consisted of a Varsity 7 against some of the best teams from the Columbus area and more. Sam Bush ran a new school cross country record of 17:36 (previous record held by Assistant Coach Carolyn Remmele), and finished in 3rd place out of a field of 186 runners. Season Best times from scorers Jayne Maxwell, Lydia Bentley, Jenny Middendorf, and Kirby Heltman, placed the Spartans in 8th out of 26 teams. Isabel Shim and Bridget Lloyd were our 6th and 7th runners, finishing in the top half of the field with season best times. Regional rival, Beavercreek won the race and local team, Lakota East finished 3rd.

The final race for the day was an open race where our Juniors and Seniors whom hadn't yet competed had a chance to shine. Seal Russell came home with a medal for her 2nd place finish out of a field of 340 runners. Anna Nolan and Maya Blaxall also finished in the top 20. Erica Langan, in her first week back to competition this season was our 4th scorer. Tiffany Russell finalized our team score for a finish place of 3rd out of 23 teams. Seniors Katie Kobasuk, and Lena Bercz made up our top 7 place finishers finishing in the top 100.
