You never know how a team will respond after a tough loss but the Spartans (3-1-1 ECC, 9-2-2) played very well as a team in their 4-1 victory over previous undefeated Fairfield.
This was only the 2nd time Turpin had played on a grass field this year so it took some time to get used to the strange bounces and the game being a little slower. The Spartans got on the board early when Tommy Bernard sent a crossing pass into the box that a Fairfield player was not able to clear and Ethan Vargo knocked in. Vargo did a great job of staying wide on the play. The Spartans limited Fairfield’s scoring opportunities for a 1-0 halftime lead.
The Spartans quickly build the lead to 2-0 on a nice string of passes from the midfield. Eventually Chris Workman dribbled into the box and found a cutting Austin Long who calmly knocked the ball into the left corner. The Spartans added an insurance goal when Caleb King sent a long ball to Workman who dribbled passed two defenders before shooting pass the goalie for a 3-0 lead.
Fairfield was able to get one of the goals back to make it 3-1 but Will Cissell was able to score on a header off of a long throw in by Keegan King. Great team win as the entire team played significant minutes which will help to get ready for the home stretch of conference play and sectionals. Turpin is playing some great soccer right now. Keep it up!
