The Spartans traveled crosstown to take-on McAuley on Monday night and overcame a slow start to take down the Mohawks 17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-18.
After a rocky first set, the Spartans got outstanding efforts across the board in rallying back to earn the four set victory.
The night belonged to the Turpin defense, led by Sarah Gormley who delivered a career high 29 digs and more than a few highlight reel plays to help keep the Spartans alive at crucial points in the match. Eventually, all the Spartans got in on the act to deliver what was probably the Spartans strongest defensive performance of the season.
Kahley Eislet (4 blocks), Elise Schulok (5 blocks, 8 digs) and Peyton Kennedy (5 blocks, 6 digs) were forces at the net, while teammates Lisa Bruggemeier (23 digs), Julie Wittekind (21 digs) and Madi Hicks (18 digs) were strong across the back row. Spartan Setters played tough defense too, as Kali Phillips (14 digs) and Jenna Storn (8 digs) also contributed big plays.
The Spartans have now won 11 of 14, and sit tied with Anderson for 2nd place in the ECC. The Spartans play at Withrow Tuesday night before returning home this Thursday to wrap-up the regular season with Anderson.
Thursday is SENIOR NIGHT v Anderson, so come on out and support our senior co-captains, Lisa Bruggemeier and Madi Hicks as they play their final Turpin home match, before leading their Spartans into the playoffs.
Thursday night: Freshmen at 4:30, JV at 5:45 and Varsity at 7:00.
