The Spartans (5-1-1 ECC, 13-2-2) played a very solid and complete game in defeating a good Western Brown team 5-0. The final score does not indicate the competitiveness of the game early on. Turpin did a better job of finishing their chances.
Western Brown had a very good regular season record but did not play any of the same teams Turpin did so no one knew what to expect. Turpin scored early to take the pressure off a bit as Chris Workman knocked in a bouncing ball in the box from a throw-in from Caleb King. Western Brown almost got the equalizer within minutes as one of their quick forwards found an opening for a shot but David Rinderle came out for a great save.
Most teams tend to play a sagging defense but to Western Browns credit they put numbers up top to try and score. This allowed them to have some chances but the disadvantage is it did give Spartans more room to operate on offense. With 12 minutes to go in the half Hans Schwarz made it 2-0 with a blast from the top of the box on a deflection from the Western Brown defender. Keegan King closed out the first half scoring with a nice pass from Ethan Vargo to make it 3-0.
The Spartans looked sharp in the 2nd half controlling the game and limiting Western Browns opportunities. Hans Schwarz made it 4-0 after he received a long through ball from Workman and he did the rest to get past the keeper. Keegan King finished out the scoring with a pass from Caleb King to make the final 5-0. Up next is a hot Loveland team!
