Sam Bush, Jayne Maxwell, Lydia Bentley, Jenny Middendorf and Isabel Shim led the Spartans' girls cross country team to a championship at the St. Xavier Invitational Saturday. The Turpin boys claimed 5th place led by Ben Gothard, who took home 3rd overall.
The girls XC team had different kind of race this week. They had a night race on Saturday and they proved they are just as strong on their night legs. They had a very competitive race against as many as 24 teams and finished in the top five of each race. The night had three girls races.
The Spartan ladies cross country team had a busy weekend with the team split between two races. Seven varsity girls went to the Trinity/Valkyrie at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville. They raced against some of the best teams from Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, and Virginia. The remaining team attended the Milford Invitational.
The Mason Invitational is usually one of the highlights of the Turpin XC schedule and it did not disappoint in its 2016 edition. With the race passing through woods, muddy hills, two creek crossings and obstacles aplenty the course is always challenging and fun.
