The first competitive week in ladies tennis was a successful one. The season kicked off with the Eastside Doubles Tournament on Tuesday. First doubles team, Gabby Verdin and Katie Bercz, won their flight. Second doubles team Caroline Millard and Sarah Wilke, along with third and fourth doubles pairings of Zanda Orgil and Brogan Bennell, and Catie Sherman and Sara Meek came in 2nd place.
The girls’ tennis team is hard at work preparing for their upcoming season and they are hungry for what eluded them last year… An ECC title.
Turpin High School will be represented by two young talented tennis stars at next week's state tournament. Katie Bercz and Gabby Verdin clinched a spot in the tournament with a successful districts run. The dynamic duo kicked off Thursday with a demolition of the number one seed from the Troy section. This win lined them up with a matchup against a solid Bellbrook team. Pushed, but not at all overwhelmed, the Spartans managed a straight set victory, 6-2, 6-4.
Wednesday saw the Lady Spartans kick off postseason action at Mason High School's courts. Being placed in a tough section, alongside the likes of top teams such as St. Ursuline, Sycamore, and Mason, Turpin looked to make some noise.
