In their first high school golf match, Freshmen Zach Gardner and Austin Williamson fired a pair of 41s to lead the way for Turpin in a victory over Sycamore High School 178-187 at California Golf Course. Freshman Garret Frey also shot a 46.
After a rough start to the season with a 348 at the Anderson Invitational on Tuesday, the boys varsity golf team bounced back in a big way at the ECC Preview on Wednesday. They fired a very solid 317 at Glenview Golf Course, led by overall silver medalist, Cash Renfro, who shot a 74. Collin McAninch also had a great round, shooting a 77 and Jacob Breth came in with an 80. This great showing landed Turpin in third place behind Milford (307) and Loveland (312).
Brad Suder is entering his first season as the varsity coach at Turpin after spending the last three as the junior varsity coach. The new coach has a wealth of players returning in Jacob Breth, Collin McAninch, Cash Renfro, Isaac Goldner, Clay Scherer and Ryan Lambert.
The interest level surrounding the Turpin Spartans golf program has reached a new height. According to coach J.K. Buck, the team added golfers to push the total to 17. The Spartans return seven players from a season ago, including junior Isabel Ciampone.
