With the regular season behind them, the Spartans turned their attention to the sectional tournament and an opening game versus GCL stalwart, Mercy. After some jitters and slow start, the Spartans used an 18 point 2nd quarter to take control of the game and a 17 point 3rd quarter to make it academic in route to a comfortable 46-30 victory.
Turpin’s four seniors, Grace Hamilton, Charlotte Kerregan, Claudia Reynolds and Kaitlyn Workman were recognized last Saturday as large crowd at a finely decorated Klinger Court watched these four play their final home game of their careers. With all the pomp and circumstance, each were accompanied by their parents to the center court for the pregame festivities and the home crowd would leave elated as the Spartans cruised to a 49-21 win over their township rivals the Anderson Redskins.
The Withrow Tigers hosted the Spartans on the grand re-opening of the Withrow Gym last Wednesday. It was the first home game for the Tigers after the gym suffered water damage in the fall. The beautiful new venue coupled with senior night for the hosts ensured a large crowd, and with the Tiger Pep Band filling the venue with sound, it was an electric atmosphere for this ECC matchup. Kaitlyn Workman, Ellie Holt and Charlotte Kerregan led Turpin with 13 points each as the Spartans beat the Tigers 47-42.
For the 20th game of the season, the Turpin Spartans (12-7, 8-4 ECC) hosted the Seton Saints in the last non-conference game of the campaign. Turpin had lost the last two games by a total of 3 points, and to erase that “anxiety”, the Spartans were in need of a complete game win. However, the two win Seton squad came to play, but in the end the Spartans took care of the ball and used a 28 point second half to pull away for a 48-39 victory.
