On Saturday, February 4th, the Turpin Spartans (12-6, 8-3 ECC) hosted the Kings Knights (14-5, 8-3 ECC) with second place in the conference standings awarded to the victors. Turpin battled back from a 10 point deficit in the 1st quarter to knot the contest at 35 with 90 seconds to play before falling to the Knights, 37-35.
Turpin hosted Summit Country Day on Monday night as the visitors came into the game the #1 ranked Division III team in Ohio. The Spartans started quickly and it appeared they were on their way to handing the Silver Knights their first loss of the year, but the Knights came back in the 2nd half and hit a free throw with 4 seconds left to escape Klinger Court with a win.
On Wednesday night, Milford hosted Turpin in their second match up of the season. This game wasn’t just any game between two area rivals; instead it was the third annual Game of Hope and when all the pomp and circumstance of the evening was complete, a total of $5,000 was raised to benefit the fight against cancer. While the final score indicated a 42-28 Turpin victory, even the Spartans would agree that the biggest winner of the night was The Cure Starts Now Foundation.
Two of the top teams in the ECC met as Turpin traveled to the campus of Walnut Hills for a game that would have a direct impact on the conference championship. For three quarters, the game was full of intrigue, but in the final quarter, the host’s 10 player rotation turned out to be too much for the Spartans.
