The Withrow Tigers hosted the Spartans on the grand re-opening of the Withrow Gym last Wednesday. It was the first home game for the Tigers after the gym suffered water damage in the fall. The beautiful new venue coupled with senior night for the hosts ensured a large crowd, and with the Tiger Pep Band filling the venue with sound, it was an electric atmosphere for this ECC matchup. Kaitlyn Workman, Ellie Holt and Charlotte Kerregan led Turpin with 13 points each as the Spartans beat the Tigers 47-42.
For the 20th game of the season, the Turpin Spartans (12-7, 8-4 ECC) hosted the Seton Saints in the last non-conference game of the campaign. Turpin had lost the last two games by a total of 3 points, and to erase that “anxiety”, the Spartans were in need of a complete game win. However, the two win Seton squad came to play, but in the end the Spartans took care of the ball and used a 28 point second half to pull away for a 48-39 victory.
On Saturday, February 4th, the Turpin Spartans (12-6, 8-3 ECC) hosted the Kings Knights (14-5, 8-3 ECC) with second place in the conference standings awarded to the victors. Turpin battled back from a 10 point deficit in the 1st quarter to knot the contest at 35 with 90 seconds to play before falling to the Knights, 37-35.
Turpin hosted Summit Country Day on Monday night as the visitors came into the game the #1 ranked Division III team in Ohio. The Spartans started quickly and it appeared they were on their way to handing the Silver Knights their first loss of the year, but the Knights came back in the 2nd half and hit a free throw with 4 seconds left to escape Klinger Court with a win.
