Friday evening was the inaugural girls/boys Varsity basketball doubleheader in the ECC and Klinger Court was electric as Turpin hosted the defending conference champs, the Walnut Hills Eagles. The Spartans didn’t disappoint a sizeable crowd in good voice with an impressive 1st half that had an upset in the making, but the Eagles wore down the hosts in the 2nd half to escape with a win.
The Spartans traveled to Milford looking to level their conference record on Wednesday. After a cold shooting 1st half, the visitors produced their best quarter of the season to take command of the game and go on to defeat the Eagles 35-21.
The Spartans traveled cross town to take on the Seton Saints who already earned 4 wins thus far in the season. Turpin got off to a good start, used an effective defensive scheme and dominated inside to earn a hard fought 40-32 victory to improve to 4-2.
Saturday’s home contest against the defending conference champions was clearly the most important game thus far in this young season. A loss would send the Spartans to a three game ECC losing streak while a win would create some momentum going into a stretch of 4 games in a week’s time. The Spartans took command early with their best 1st quarter of the season and used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Kings, 46-36, at Klinger Court.
