On Saturday, December 10 the Spartans (0-4) hosted the LaSalle Lancers (1-0, #3 Enquirer poll) and were defeated 76-35 in their home opener.  The Lancers came out smoking, and remained red-hot throughout the game, shooting 70% from the floor.

On December 6, the Spartans (0-2) traveled up Beechmont Ave. to take on the McNicholas Rockets (1-0) in a non-league contest.  A crisp first quarter saw the Spartans take a 14-10 lead, but then disaster struck in the second which saw the Rockets go on a 14-1 run as part of a 22-5 second quarter.  This was basically the difference in the game as the Spartans lost 55-38.

In a case of déjà vu, the Turpin Spartans (0-1) opened the season against GMC power Lakota West (1-0) on Friday, December 2.  It’s same squad that knocked the Spartans out of the Sectional tournament last year and ended their season.

Boys Basketball Coach

Josh Slonim graduated from Turpin in 2005, where he played basketball and baseball. He played basketball at Ohio Wesleyan University before transferring to Miami University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports studies and then attended Bowling Green, where he earned an MBA in 2010.  He worked as a student assistant with Miami and a graduate assistant at BGSU. He was head coach for AAU teams in Cincinnati and Louisville, winning a National Championship in 2014. Josh served as an assistant at Trinity and Moeller high schools before coming to Turpin in 2017.
