On Thursday, the Turpin Spartans beat visiting Bishop Fenwick, 1-0, in a game that was moved to Turpin because of poor field conditions at Fenwick.
On Tuesday, the Turpin Spartans took on the Fairfield Indians at home, winning 1-0. This was the first match of the season for the Spartans and they were excited to take their home field for the first time. The game opened up slowly with neither team having any real attempts to score goals. Fairfield controlled possession for most of the game, passing around in the midfield, but the Indians were unable to penetrate the Spartans’ defense and at the end of the first half the score was tied at 0-0.
Congrats goes out to Trevor Thompson and Ryan Asbury as they both look to continue their soccer careers at the college level. Trevor will be playing for Bellarmine University and Ryan will be playing for Baldwin Wallace.
The Turpin Boys Soccer Team advanced to the District championships to play the Tecumseh Arrows at Bellbrook high school in the Division I tournament. The winner would play the winner of Mason and Walnut Hills. The Spartans got off to a very quick start with good ball movement and an early scoring chance from Pierce Hicks, however he was called offside. Even though it was called back, it set the tone for the game. Just a few minutes later Pierce got what he deserved as he headed in a goal off of a Trevor Thompson corner. The half continued with good ball movement from side to side as well as good defense against Tecumseh's skilled players.
