Turpin High School will be represented by two young talented tennis stars at next week's state tournament. Katie Bercz and Gabby Verdin clinched a spot in the tournament with a successful districts run. The dynamic duo kicked off Thursday with a demolition of the number one seed from the Troy section. This win lined them up with a matchup against a solid Bellbrook team. Pushed, but not at all overwhelmed, the Spartans managed a straight set victory, 6-2, 6-4.
Wednesday saw the Lady Spartans kick off postseason action at Mason High School's courts. Being placed in a tough section, alongside the likes of top teams such as St. Ursuline, Sycamore, and Mason, Turpin looked to make some noise.
Sophomore Katie Bercz won the ECC tennis tournament at Second Singles for the Lady Spartans. The doubles team of sophomore Abby Toerner and junior Ellen Antoniades won the ECC tennis tournament at first doubles for the Lady Spartans.
The Lady Spartans played a lot of tennis over the past two weeks. Beginning their stretch on September 3rd, the girls took on Ursuline B, coming out with a dominating win. The next day saw the Spartans battle the Anderson Redskins for the second time in the season. The Redskin, along with the heat, were no problem for the girls, earning a 5-0 victory. On Friday, the girls played their toughest match of the week, and possibly the season, against Ursuline A in the State Tournament, losing 5-0.
