The Gymnastics Seniors were announced and recognized before the commencement of the Forest Hills Flip Fest on January 14th. Our seniors shared advice to their fellow teammates and their future college decisions.
The Girls Gymnastics continue deliver good news with their team score climbing 2 points higher at the Forest Hills Flip Fest on January 14th. The other schools competing with Turpin were Lakota East, Lakota West, Alter, Defiance, Worthington Kilbourne, Miami Trace and Magnificat high schools.
The team began the meet on vault with Maria Bushman, Olivia Meagher, Serra Tuzun, Amber Russell, Katie Lambert, Brittany Gardner, Polina Elagin and Gretchen Watkins competing. Junior Gretchen Watkins placed 10th with a score of 9.0 where she did a tsuk vault and stuck her landing.
The team rotated to bars with Olivia Meagher, Serra Tuzun, Amber Russell, Gretchen Watkins, Brittany Gardner and Katie Lambert competing. Gretchen finished in 9th place.
The next event was the balance beam with Gretchen Watkins and Polina Elagin leading the team and were joined by Serra Tuzun, Olivia Meagher, Amber Russell, Maria Bushman, and Geena Marcon.
The final event was the floor and competing this event was Olivia Meagher, Serra Tuzun, Amber Russell Maria Bushman, Gretchen Watkins, Kate Seibert, Geena Marcon, Hailey Beiswanger, Brittany Gardner, Polina Elagin and Katie Lambert. Senior Katie Lambert led the Spartans with a 10th place finish, closely followed by Brittany Gardner, Amber Russell and Gretchen Watkins.
Gretchen Watkins competed all-around for first time this season and finished in 7th place with a 33.85. Amber Russell also competed all-around and had a season high score. Serra Tuzun and Olivia Meagher competed all-around for first time this season.
Spartans started off the new year with an 8-point team score jump from their first meet at the Oak Hills Invitational on January 8th.
Senior Polina Elagin scored one of her best career scores an 8.4 to place 7th on beam
Senior Brittany Gardner returns for her first meet of the season with a solid routine on bars. Senior Katie Lambert improved her scores on her 3 events: bars, floor and vault. Junior Gretchen Watkins brought up her bar score by .9 and continues to contribute to the team score.
Sophomore Maria Bushman improved on score by 1 point. Freshman Olivia Meagher is showing the rewards of practice as her scores on her 3 events have steadily increased with the beam score jumping up by 1.3 points. Freshman Leah Roodhouse increased her vault score and competed on floor for the first time. Freshman Amber Russell brought up her floor score by 1 point as well as her bar score. Freshman Serra Tuzun broke into the 30's on her all-around score with higher scores on every event yet the 1.5 points on floor was her highest leap.

Exciting ride to Columbus for the Hilliard Invitational. Turpin compete against all Columbus teams. While the team is not at full strength due to injuries, they gave it their all and the four freshman had a chance to show their talent.
