After a two week hiatus from the schedule, the Spartans took to the home court for last time this season with the intent of finishing several story lines. First, Turpin looked to earn their 10th win of the season while ending a three game skid. In addition, the team was back to full strength for the first time since before Christmas. Most notably was the return of Tess Herzog to the line-up. Less than two months removed from brain surgery, Herzog wasted little time in making an impact as she scored the first two baskets of the game. Also returning from injury was Chloe Smith and she got in on the act with a steal and layup as the Spartans started strong.

Turpin finished up the month of January with a home game against a solid Mercy Bobcat team who came in with 12 wins to show for their current season. The visitors used their aggressive defense to jump out to any early 5-0 lead before a fine piece of individual skill from Maggie Argus got the Spartans on the board. After receiving the ball on the left block, Maggie dribbled around the key before draining the right handed lay-up. The Spartans were getting good looks and second chances as Erin Reed’s two offensive rebounds and steal contributed to the effort. Corinne Nikolai went 3 of 4 from the charity stripe to account for the rest of first quarter tally as the Spartans found themselves down 10-5.

Turpin made the short trip to McNicholas High School to take on the Rockets to start off the week. The visiting Spartans found themselves in a defensive struggle early as Allison Christopher recorded two baskets to open up the scoring while Corinne Nikolai scored on an offensive rebound. However, the Spartans were down 8-6 after the opening frame due to two three pointers by the host Rockets.

Turpin hosted ECC rival Loveland and Turpin was looking to revenge their first defeat of the season. The host Spartans found themselves down 5-0 after the first few minutes of the quarter before Corinne Nikolai recorded two baskets in front of Allison Christopher's field goal. The Spartans were up 6-5 at the end of the quarter. The Spartans were disappointed they didn't convert more opportunities since they were dominating the offensive glass and could not convert their "put backs". Sadly, this would foreshadow the rest of the evening.

Girls FR Basketball Coach


Hopewell 17 1Pete Hopewell is going into his 23rd year coaching High School Sports in the Cincinnati and Dayton area. He was the Varsity Boys basketball coach at Little Miami prior to coming to Turpin as the Varsity Boys head basketball coach in the Fall of 2005 in which in his second year was able to capture a FAVC Cardinal Division Title and Coach of the year for the 2006-2007 season.
