The lady freshman Spartans continued their winning streak by defeating Walnut Hills 29-18. During the first half the lead traded places several times - by the end of the first quarter Turpin led 7-5 and at the half Walnut Hills was ahead 10-7. The Spartans outscored the Eagles 14-2 in the third quarter, due largely to Abby Gunlock's 9 points. This was the second time we defeated the Eagles this season.
The lady freshman Spartans hung on to win against Glen Este 15-14. They led at the end of the first quarter 8-0 and did not score in the second quarter holding the lead 8-5 at halftime. There was not much scoring by either team in the second half. Turpin held on to win by only one point.
The freshman lady Spartans lost a close game to Milford, 22-28 -- their first loss of the season. The Spartans led at the end of the first quarter 7-4, and only trailed by two points at halftime. During the second half Milford’s superior height took over, we just could not keep up with them on the boards. Jillian Palmer led in scoring with 14 points and Kate Schlosser with 8 points.
The Girls Freshmen team had back to back games this week. On Wednesday Feb.1st, they traveled just up the road to play McNick for the second time this season and beat them for a second time. The game was much closer this time around with the final score being 16-14. Jana Owen led the scoring with 5, Kiersten and Allie with 4 each and Maddie contributing 3.Well done Ladies.
The freshman lady Spartans won a physical and highly contested game at Milford, 28-25 in overtime. This made up for their only loss of the season, earlier against Milford. The game was 12-10 in our favor at halftime, and 23-23 at the end of regulation. The Spartans were led in scoring by Jillian Palmer with 12 points, Maddy Fahey and Abby Gundlock 4 points, Sophie Tucker 3 points, Lexi Minor and Hayley Racer 2 points and Kate Schlosser 1 point.
The Freshman lady Spartans are off to a great start this season with a win over Micnick in their season opener. It was a hard fought game that ended in a overtime victory 25-23. All seven girls contributed in the victory.
They went on to win a tightly contested game 26-18 against Oak Hills. They pulled away at the end with their pressure defense. They were led in scoring by Jillian Palmer 12 points, and followed by Haley Racer. They got help on the boards from Lexi Miner and Kate Schlosser.
The Spartan Freshmen girls traveled to Anderson on Saturday January 21st. The last time these two teams met Anderson walked away with the win, but it was a close game.
