With exam week behind them, the only matter of business standing in the way of the Holiday break was a game against the Cougars of Mt. Notre Dame (MND). With MND being one of the best programs in the city, the game fashioned a good test for the 5-1 Freshmen Lady hoopsters.

Defense was the name of the game.

The Spartans took on the Eagles of Milford on Saturday with the Spartan defense showing up looking like they had something to prove, and they did. The Eagles were held to only 2 points in the first half and these came from free throws. The Spartans kept the Eagles from getting any really good looks at the basket. Our rebounding and steals were also on point. Tess Herzog and Brielle Robinson teamed up for some spectacular steals and deflections which seemed to throw off the Eagles. Chloe Smith started the Spartan scoring again in this game and Allison Christopher's incredible hook shot under the basket was one for the highlight reel. The Spartans took a strong 12-2 lead into the half.

The Spartans took on the Harrison Wildcats on Saturday and the New Miami Vikings on Monday at home and came away with two more wins.

The first quarter ended with the Spartans up 5-2. In the second quarter, Harrison attacked the Spartan inbounding and were able to pull back within four points at the half.

Natalie Rowland dropped a 3-pointer in the second quarter and with more outstanding defense the girls were able to cruse to a 17-5 lead at the half.

Our Lady Spartans got off to a slow start and it was apparent that they needed to get used to being in a real game situation. Chloe Smith was the first to get in the score book when she made her free throw. The girls continued to drive and work out the kinks with good teamwork. The second quarter showed our Lady Spartans had gotten over their case of "nerves" and they really started to get things rolling. Passing, set plays and just overall play really improved and the half ended with our Lady Spartans up with a 19-13 lead.
