In the second home game of the season under the new stadium lights, the Women's Spartans soccer team played a very good Fairfield Indians team, but couldn’t capitalize on numerous offensive opportunities for the go ahead score and win.
Congratulations to head coach Kathy Carboy, assistant coach Joe Super, and Turpin’s Varsity Volleyball Team as they secured their first win of the season against Seton on Saturday. The starting lineup included Seniors Ally Gormley and Lauren Kobasuk, Juniors Claire Armbruster, Emily Cattran, and Marisa Cerchio, and Sophomore Madi Hicks.
After a week of rigorous tryouts, the lady Spartans started off their season with the annual Cincinnati Tennis Club doubles tournament.
Last year, the Spartans picked up Rob Stoll's 100th win as head coach and pushed his career record to 101-45. But in the last two years, Turpin is a combined 8-12 and is three years removed from the perfect regular season it put together. Of course, that's all in the past and coaches like to focus on the here and now.
The defending 2014 Southwest Ohio Regional Finalist, 2014 District Champions, and 2015 #2 ranked Spartan’s Women’s soccer program began their 2015 season against a talented and well coached Oak Hills women’s soccer program currently ranked 4th in the City. The first half ended in a 0-0 deadlock with both teams displaying their talent and physical play. Both teams had offensive opportunities, but couldn’t capitalize and win the important first strike.
The varsity Turpin cross country teams officially kicked off the season with a trip to National Trailway in Hebron, east of Columbus, for the OHSAA Preseason Invitational. The meet is held on the same course as the State meet in November.
The Turpin boys' cross country team celebrated the unofficial beginning of the 2015 season by running the Newtown 5K on Saturday, August 8. Their first big test of the season will be at the OHSAA Pre-Season Invitational meet at the National Trail Raceway on August 15.
